This past weekend (September 26–27), the regional curling community gathered across the border for one of the most anticipated events on our competitive calendar: the BeNeLux Championship. Hosted this year by our gracious neighbors in Belgium at Curling Club Zemst, the tournament brought together teams from Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands for two packed days of strategy, precision, and spirited rivalry.

It was a tightly contested weekend on the ice, filled with thrilling ends, high-stakes shotmaking, and classic post-game sportsmanship in the warm room.

The Final Standings

The overall competition remained close down to the wire, with every stone counting toward the final tally. While the team from the Netherlands ultimately claimed top honors this year, Curling Luxembourg put up a fierce fight across all four of our competing lineups:

  • 1st Place: Netherlands — 33 points

  • 2nd Place: Belgium — 21 points

  • 3rd Place: Luxembourg — 18 points

Congratulations to the winning nation - the Netherlands!

Representing Curling Luxembourg

We are immensely proud of our four squads for their grit, focus, and team spirit throughout the tournament:

  • Lux 1 Team: Shiori Kuboki, Karen Wauters, Maja Gildhoff, and Monica Louie

  • Lux 2 Team: Furio Pezzoli, Paweł Borsukiewicz, and Alex Benoy

(Alternates: Rick Chartrand, Marc Hansen, and Ian Munn)

  • Lux 1 Mixed Doubles: Rick Chartrand and Betty Spurgeon

  • Lux 2 Mixed Doubles: Marc Hansen and Ian Munn

From tactical mixed doubles action to full four-player team battles, our athletes represented the red, white, and light blue with incredible determination and fair play.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Hosts

A championship weekend like this is only possible through the dedication of those working behind the scenes. We extend a warm, heartfelt thank you to Curling Club Zemst and our Belgian hosts for putting on a fantastic tournament. From the ice preparation to the friendly atmosphere off the sheet, your hospitality truly embodied the Spirit of Curling.

We look forward to taking the lessons learned from Zemst back to our home ice at Patinoire Kockelscheuer as we continue building momentum for the rest of the season!
