Luxembourg Teams Outside of Luxembourg: Recapping the Luzern Eispokal

Over the weekend of October 31 – November 1, a team from Curling Luxembourg headed across the border to compete in the prestigious 10th edition of the Luzerner Eispokal (Luzern Eispokal) in Switzerland. Hosted by CC Luzern at the Luzern Regionales Eiszentrum, the tournament brought together spirited teams for a high-caliber weekend of international competition and tactical ice action.

You can view the full tournament overview and results on the official Luzerner Eispokal Tournament Page.

Building Luxembourg’s Men’s National Team

This weekend held special significance for our squad: the core lineup is actively training and working together toward becoming the future Men’s National Team for Luxembourg. Taking on established European clubs in high-stakes tournament settings is a vital step in honing the squad’s tactical execution, stone placement, and on-ice communication.

Representing Luxembourg on the sheet were Rick Chartrand, Selwyn Grünigen, Paweł Borsukiewicz, and Shiori Kuboki. While Shiori is a cornerstone of Luxembourg’s Women’s National Team, she stepped in as a sub for the weekend.

Tournament Performance & Final Standing

Competing against strong Swiss and international competition, the team put up a determined effort across every end, finishing in 11th place overall (Team name Kämpfend Kniddelen). Every match provided crucial competitive reps and valuable insights that the squad will carry forward into the rest of the season as they continue their national team trajectory.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Hosts

We extend our sincere gratitude to Curling Club Luzern (CC Luzern) and the tournament committee for organizing a fantastic 10th anniversary edition of the Luzerner Eispokal. From the excellent ice conditions to the warm Swiss hospitality in the clubhouse, it was a memorable weekend of curling camaraderie.

We look forward to taking these hard-earned lessons back to our home sheet at Patinoire Kockelscheuer!
